Volume One of THEY LIE IN WAIT TO DECEIVE

 The late Dee Jay Nelson lectured at the invitation of numerous churches. On a lecture tour through Arizona, Robert L. and Rosemary Brown attended and taped one of his lectures.  The Browns discovered that ninety- six statements from Nelson's 120 minute lecture were false or misleading.

     Dee Jay Nelson, among other things, claimed to have earned two Ph.D. degrees, to be a world renowned Egyptologist, to be an author of over 150 scientific papers and articles, to be a mathematician, and to be one who because of his reputation, was asked by the late King Farouk of Egypt to catalog his artifacts.  He used these and other impressive credentials to intimidate his audiences to believing his false statements concerning Joseph Smith and The Book of Abraham. 

    However, Dee Jay Nelson was found to be a high school dropout who purchased his degree from a diploma mill which was subsequently shut down the Attorney General of  Washington State, was unknown to real Egyptologists who were unaware of his "scientific" and "Egyptological contributions," etc., etc.

 Volume Two of THEY LIE IN WAIT TO DECEIVE

    From the time of publication of The Book of Mormon, anti-Mormons have sought to discredit it.  One popular theory was that it was the Spaulding Manuscript.  Volume II of They Lie In Wait To Deceive is an answer to the book, Who Really Wrote The Book of Mormon?  The Spaulding theory is completely discredited and the deceit of its advocates, namely Walter Martin, Wayne Cowdrey, Donald Scales, and Howard Davis, is exposed.  

The critics case included an affidavit from a handwriting expert who stated to these authors [Robert and Rosemary Brown] in a video taped interview that he did not write or sign it [the affidavit]---that it was a fabrication.  An affidavit to that effect also appears in this book.  Other items included to prove their case were scare stories about threats supposedly made by the Mormon Church to the handwriting experts---which threats were denied by the handwriting experts, claims of false genealogies in which Walter Martin falsely claimed to be a descendent of Brigham Young, and Wayne Cowdrey falsely claimed to be a descendent of Oliver Cowdery.  The genealogies of Walter Martin and Brigham Young were presented to show Martin that he was not a descendent of Brigham Young, and the genealogy of Oliver Cowdery was presented to show that Cowdery had only one daughter that lived to maturity and she died childless.  False credentials such as being a descendent of an early leader in the Church or falsely claiming to have been a "Mormon Bishop" [as Jim Robertson of Concerned Christians of Mesa has done] or some other leader are often used by professional anti-Mormons to lend authority to false claims.  

Volume II also includes excerpts from The Book of Mormon to acquaint readers with its real content and a copy of the original Spaulding Manuscript for comparison.

Volume Three of THEY LIE IN WAIT TO DECEIVE

 One of the more well known professional anti-Mormons who had used his radio broadcasts to spread misleading information was the late "Dr." Walter R. Martin.  His claims and credentials are examined to determine if his professed credentials are valid as claimed or if he is just another imposter.  Walter Martin claimed a Doctorate degree, current ordination as a minister, and various other claims.  As you read the numerous documents which trace his adult life - - you will see that Walter Martin follows the typical format for professional anti-Mormons - - they claim impressive credentials to gain the confidence of the public and take that opportunity to teach false and misleading information about the LDS Church. 

Martin and other   professional anti-Mormons devote their entire lives to spreading false information.

Volume Four of THEY LIE IN WAIT TO DECEIVE

     John Edward Decker has proven himself to be exceptional in the field of anti-Mormon endeavors.  Teaming up with other well known anti-Mormons such as the late "Dr." Walter Martin, Ed Decker distinguished himself by not only publishing some of the most absurd anti-Mormon literature to ever assault the public, but raised anti-Mormonism to a furor level by starring in and producing a film (The Godmakers) that inflamed the public (both foreign and domestic).  The National Conference of Christians and Jews (NCCJ), in reviewing the film, declared it to be "religious pornography."  Mr. Decker excelled in the use of innuendo to put his misleading information into the public arena.  Like the anti-Mormons in preceding volumes of They Lie In Wait To  Deceive, Mr. Decker did not hesitate to use the false credentials of people in order to promote his disinformation about the LDS Church.  

     The purpose of Volume IV is to expose the deceit of professional anti-Mormons J. Edward (Ed) Decker (major producer of The Godmakers film), 

Richard (Dick) Baer (major participant and sometimes referred to as co-producer), Jerald and Sandra Tanner, John L. Smith, and other self-proclaimed authorities on LDS Church.  As in the preceding volumes, the authors have merely taken the liberty to check out the claims made by these anti-Mormons.  

    When deception is uncovered, the logical question to ask is "why?"  The answer to this question is answered in this and previous volumes of They Lie In Wait To Deceive.
